TVP Oatmeal and Peanut Butter Burgers

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup texturized vegetable protein (TVP)
  • 1/4 cup raw oatmeal
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried herbs (e.g. basil, oregano, parsley, thyme)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup (we like True Foods and Primal Kitchen brands)
  • 2 tablespoons coconut aminos (or soy sauce or Braggs liquid aminos)
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter (we like Justin's brand)
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon nutrional yeast flakes


DIRECTIONS

  1. Bring 3/4 cups water to a rolling boil.
  2. Meanwhile, mix together the TVP, oatmeal, and spices, except for the nutritional yeast flakes.
  3. Combine hot water, ketchup, and soy sauce, stirring until blended.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, stirring until blended. Let this rest for 10 minutes, so that the oats absorb the liquid.
  5. Mix in the peanut butter.
  6. Mix in the flour and nutrional yeast flakes.
  7. Shape into patties.

The patties should look something like this. Fry or grill the patties.
